There are a lot of items that I haven’t addressed with the site and more specifically the forum. I’ve been pretty busy with work including some cross country travels. I should have some time to knock out some of these issues over the next couple of weekends. Here’s a list of items I have to tackle. Please add anything that I forget or any suggestions you may have.
1) Login/Register CSS is ghetto-fucked
2) Posting issues from mobile devices
3) Black text appearing for quote replies
4) Private Messaging CSS and tables are screwy at best
Due to excessive misuse we are no longer able to use the lot behind our space for parking and congregating during shows. We do not own that property and the owners that do have received numerous violations from the city for litter, which is so prevalent now we simply can’t keep up with it. We have been warning people this would be the result if the same behavior continued and well, here we are. With this said, over the last month or so we have been monitoring this situation to learn the following: most of our supporters who use that lot do their best to help keep it clean, come in when bands play, and respect our space and efforts to keep shows coming to Dallas. However, there does seem to be a large, growing, number of individuals (mostly very young) who have discovered they can show up at our space when we have shows going on and use the back lot as a place to do whatever; drinking, drugs, partying all night (long after shows are over) and then they split after they have trashed the place – with no repercussions to them, only us. Obviously this is a problem on many different levels. From the very beginning, we decided to implore a “no alcohol” standard not because members of the collective are “anti-drinking” (as many of you know, the majority of us drink ourselves) but because we want to have an environment where all can feel welcome and safe, and we want to ensure that we aren’t doing anything that could put us in a dangerous situation with the “law.” However, as mentioned before we are certainly concerned about the state of things. So, with all this said, we have decided to take on a “conditional compromise.” What this means is that we are going to try something new and how long we continue to do it, will be dependent on the short-term results.
As of this Thursday at the NAPALM RAID AND CONTAGIUM SHOW both lots will be closed to parking indefinitely. There is plenty of available parking all along Willow St and East Side Dr for people to use. However, we will also allow adults of legal drinking age to bring in their own alcohol for consumption within our gated backyard. ALCOHOL IS STILL NOT ALLOWED INSIDE OUR BUILDING (EITHER SIDE) UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. We will still have all age shows, ID’s will be checked at the gate, and no ins and outs will be allowed for minors under any circumstance. Any minor caught drinking in or around our space or caught trying to sneak in or out will be made to leave and will not be allowed back. We will still expect people to respect our space, pick up after themselves, and refrain from violence, drugs, and graffiti within our space. We expect people to be responsible for themselves and others, police yourself! We are not a bar and do not want to convey that type of environment. Should this just turn into another problem that we (Collective volunteers) feel we have to babysit or police, we will be forced to not allow it anymore. We ask that you all help us make this a positive transition, we are counting on everyone to make it through the rest of this Summer. We know it’s hot and we are working to make it as cool as possible inside during shows. We simply didn’t raise enough money this summer to get central air put in. We hope to have some outdoor shows to help alleviate the heat. It is not easy to make everyone happy, pay bands, pay the bills, and continue to build a building. We couldn’t do it without all of you though, and we still need your support. So, with that said…come out this Thursday, have a great time, enjoy the BAD ASS bands coming through, and help us keep shows coming through Dallas DIY. Thank you to everyone for continued support.
Well, here it is. If you’re having a problem where something doesn’t seem right, clear all of your cookies related to dallashardcore.com. Let me know if you find something I overlooked.
Instead of trying to re-invent the wheel and add a new level of maintenance I have created a Facebook page for DHC. The main purpose of the page is to use Facebook’s events capability to promote shows at least that’s all I have planned for now. I know there’s a handful of people that promote shows here. If you want to ensure that the show you’re promoting makes its way to the masses please PM me on the forum or email me dallashc ATATATAT gmail.com. This doesn’t mean the Facebook page should be the only source of promoting shows. You’re still welcome to post them on the forum as there’s quite a few people that frequent the forum that avoid Facebook.
A few others will be allowed to post to the Facebook page without my intervention. For those few, please be mindful of what you post under the page.
I’m going to have to change the style of the site and the theme for the forum. The reason is WordPress is approaching 3.0 and the author of this theme has pretty much abandoned it and I do not want to sink more time into maintaining it. I’m going to have to choose a new theme that is consistently updated and maintained by its Author. In light of this, do you want it to be a “dark” or a “light” theme, most of you used subSilver when we ran phpBB which was a pretty light theme.
New users now have the option to login using existing accounts of some pretty popular sites and you do not have to register and create your own account specific to this site. Existing users though should still use their existing accounts in order to keep things in sync.
